Organizations

The Sustainability Committee will provide a forum for discussing issues related to sustainability on campus, including curriculum and campus operations, and student co-curricular activities, and formulate appropriate recommendations.  The committee membership include faculty and staff from campus operations and student programs.

The Sustainability Club’s mission is to educate ourselves about sustainability and pass our accumulated knowledge on to our fellow students and community.  The club’s goals include: raising awareness toward critical environmental issues that impact our school, community, and daily lives, providing information and support for reducing one’s ecological footprint in business practices and at home, and alerting the campus and community to the dangers of non-sustainable living and teaching alternatives that will promote a healthier future.

Engagement

Cooperate: For students, please visit Cooperative Education & Internships for more information about experiential learning opportunities in sustainability. There are also many ways to connect with local organizations who need volunteers.

Currently, Whatcom Community College works in partnership with the following sustainable organizations and many more: Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association, Mollywood Avian Sanctuary, The REStore, Bellingham Parks and Recreation, and the Sardis Raptor Center.

Collaborate: Recent collaborative efforts have included "The Truth About Plastics" Symposium in partnership with the Mt. Baker Chapter of the Sierra Club and Zero Waste Washington, as well as a community engagement forum on "Developing a Sense of Place in Academic Settings" in partnership with Community Engagement Fellows and the Canada House at WWU. If you are a member of a community organization interested in collaborating with Whatcom Community College students and/or faculty on a project related to sustainability, please contact Kaatje Kraft (kkraft@whatcom.edu)

Incorporate: The Sustainability Committee and Sustainability Club hope that the decisions, information, and events provided will inspire others to incorporate sustainable practices into their daily life.  We challenge you to go green and #beinconvenient.
