Women in STEM

Who?

Middle and high school girls.

What?

Choose two of three labs in which you will enjoy hands-on activities. (April 22 update: some sections may be full. We will do our best to accommodate your selections.)

Cybersecurity

  • You will do a forensic challenge in which you will investigate a USB drive for codes to break into a bank (premise: you've been hired as an ethical hacker to test a company's security).
  • You will decipher coded messages.
  • You will engage in Code Combat (practice coding via a game).

Instructor: Kristin Rudy, WCC CIS/cybersecurity faculty

Engineering

  • You will meet current WCC engineering students and work in teams to solve an escape room style puzzle. As you work through the escape room, you'll learn about engineering technologies such as laser cutting, 3D printing, microcontrollers, and electronic circuits. Once solved you will earn a customized souvenir of your experience.

Instructor: Chloe Boland LinkedIn_sm, WCC engineering adjunct faculty

Software development

  • You will sharpen your creative problem-solving and information-gathering techniques in client-developer role play activities that are sure to spark your imagination!
  • Learn about the future of ChatGPT and Quantum programming and how they're used for helpful applications.

Instructor: Katie Davis, WCC computer science adjunct faculty
