Nursing at Whatcom
Students who complete the nursing program at Whatcom Community College earn an associate in nursing (DTA/MRP) degree and are then eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). This degree, after RN licensure, also enables the student to complete a bachelor's degree in nursing in one academic year at any accepting college or university in Washington state.

LPNs: WCC's nursing program uses an integrated concept-based curriculum which does not allow an entry at the second year for LPNs, nor does the first year prepare students to sit for the LPN NCLEX.
Licensing in other states: this program is designed to prepare students to become licensed in Washington state. WCC has not researched whether the program meets the education requirements for licensure in any other state. If your goal is to be licensed as a nurse in another state, we encourage you to check with the licensing agency in that state before you begin the program.
Additional information, including what to expect and requirements once accepted into the nursing program, can be found in the Nursing Program Student Handbook.
