We invite you to join the Simpson Intercultural Center for our next Talkin’ Stories event. Talkin’ Stories are student led, informal, open-forum discussions regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion related issues in our community. They are a great opportunity to hear from current WCC students regarding issues that are important to them.

Our next Talkin’ Stories event, "Ancestral Roots - Mwa Eritaj Ayisyen," will take us into the heart of Haiti's rich cultural tapestry. Discover the story of Haiti, from its ancient origins as home to the resilient Taino people to the transformative struggle for independence against colonial powers. Learn about the inspiring leaders and events that led to Haiti becoming the first Black-led republic in the world. We will delve into the painful history of the 1937 Haitian Massacre, a tragedy that scarred the nation, yet failed to extinguish its spirit. Through it all, Haiti has remained a symbol of resilience and strength. But as we celebrate Haitian heritage, we must also confront the harsh realities facing Haiti today. How did a nation with such a vibrant history become plagued by poverty and suffering? Together, we will explore the complex factors that have contributed to Haiti's challenges, and how we can support its people in rebuilding and thriving. Together, let's honor the past, embrace the present, and pave the way for a brighter future for Haiti and its people.
