Bellingham, WA -

The Orcas moved to 1-1 on the year with a 72-67 win over Green River on Wednesday night in the Pavilion.   Whatcom played well in their first NWAC non-league game of the year.  The team had played Douglas College from Canada on Monday night, but they fell, 67-58.  Kyla Miller (So./Tacoma, WA./Steilacoom H.S.) had 15 points in the loss.  Hailey Ostrander (Fr./Lanai City, HI.) ended up with 16 rebounds on Monday.

On Wednesday night, the team had resurged and they were thrilled with their new energy.   Benemi Sanchez (So./Sunnyside, WA./Sunnyside H.S.) helped to lead the team offensively with 24 points including five three pointers.  Michaela Medico (Fr./Taylorsville, UT./Taylorsville H.S.) and Halei Murrell (So./Rusking, FL.) both tied in rebounds with seven.  Medico had 11 points from the floor as well.

Whatcom leaves Friday to play in the Peninsula Tournament at Peninsula College in Port Angeles, WA.  The Whatcom Orcas will face the Chemeketa Storm (2-0) in the first game at 6 p.m.  Saturday the team will play Lower Columbia College Red Devils (2-1) at 1 p.m.  Sunday the team will get to the court early against east region Treasure Valley Chukars (1-2) at 10:00 a.m.

The Orcas will find a lot of travel in December.  Next weekend they will take a road trip to Centralia for the Centralia Tournament.  On Dec. 15-17 they will play in the NWAC Crossovers at Lane College in Eugene, OR.
