Congratulations WCC Faculty Members on Receiving Tenure

Whatcom Community College (WCC) and the WCC Board of Trustees are pleased to announce that tenure was awarded to several exceptional WCC faculty members during the board of trustees meeting on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

“Mary, Tyler and abby exemplify the values of Whatcom Community College, embodying excellence in teaching and service. Their dedication to student success and their contributions to the WCC community are invaluable assets to our institution,” said Kathi Hiyane-Brown, WCC President.

Mary Haberman, Tyler Honeycutt, and abby koehler shared a personal view on their experience here at WCC below.

Mary Haberman, who teaches History and Political Science at WCC, emphasized the strong sense of community at WCC. With over 20 years of experience as an adjunct faculty member before transitioning to a full-time position, Haberman shared, "I really appreciate the community part of Whatcom Community College: collaborating with students in classes and working with colleagues at the college. I value the relationships I’ve developed over the years of my work here and the continual learning."

Tyler Honeycutt, who teaches Mathematics at WCC, expressed his enthusiasm for helping students overcome math anxiety. "I really enjoy getting the chance to help students learn new math - especially those students who are the most worried or stressed about it to begin with. It’s great to see students succeed."

abby koehler, Faculty Systems Librarian, expressed gratitude for the supportive tenure process at WCC. "The tenure process was extremely supportive at WCC. I am so thankful to have the support of my colleagues in our shared work to provide a socially just and rich learning experience for students. The community is the best part of Whatcom Community College!"
