About Our Keynote Speaker - Jessica Ramirez

Jessica Ramirez is a Higher Education Practitioner with ten years of experience in Student Life and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. She has served on planning committees for the Student Leadership Conference by CUSP and most recently was the Co-Chair of the Students of Color Conference. Additionally, she acted as the chair for the Latinx Youth Summit (hosted by the Hispanic Roundtable).

As the current Associate Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at Tacoma Community College, Jessica’s responsibilities include coaching, programming, and evaluating the College’s EDI goals, all while maintaining organizational accountability and effectiveness, compliance, momentum, and advancement towards becoming a more equitable and anti-racist institution. In her previous role at Centralia College, she served as the Vice Chair of the Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Council and helped move the college forward in their EDI initiatives. She holds a deep passion for equity, diversity, inclusion in higher education and strives to make it more accessible to historically marginalized students.

Jessica holds an Associates of Arts from Centralia College, a Bachelor’s of Arts in Communication Studies with a Minor in Diversity in Higher Education from Western Washington University, and a Master’s of Science in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Colorado State University. She seeks to share the theory of Cultural Wealth to students so they can realize the wealth that they bring with them into the spaces they occupy on campus. Jessica will share her own experience as a first generation, immigrant child, being Mexican American who grew up in rural America. She will also speak of the experience of navigating her experiences in the education system to the full circle of working in higher education.

On a more personal level, Jessica finds joy and great value in spending time with her family and friends. As her mom always says, “Es mejor tener amigos que dinero/it’s better to have friends than it is to have money”. In her free time Jessica enjoys building Legos, streaming all the latest TV shows, trying different foods, and traveling.
