Whatcom Community College realizes that internships are high impact learning opportunities for students and result in graduates with increased readiness for career success. As a Career Connected Learning Intermediary, our goal is to integrate work-based learning opportunities with academic instruction within our professional/technical programs. These experiences foster a student's academic and professional growth, while simultaneously providing academic credit that counts toward their degree. Students gain credit for not only completing a certain amount of hours on-site, these academic internship require students to demonstrate new learning and complete academic assignments. 

Minimum hours worked per credit:

  • 1 credit = 3-4 hours work/week = 33 hours total
  • 2 credits = 6-7 hours work/week = 66 hours total
  • 3 credits = 9-10 hours work/week = 99 hours total
  • 4 credits = 12-13 hours work/week = 132 hours total
  • 5 credits = 15-16 hours work/week = 165 hours total
